I don’t think the Southern Whites will leave in large numbers, especially if the local demographics improved. Their (our) ancestors have been there for centuries. Their graves are there. The towns, schools, churches – everything has a historical meaning beyond its function. Friends and families have relationships going back generations. In other words, they still resemble natives of a nation more than migrant trash. They won’t abandon it all to search for British weather.
But even though the South was spared genocidal levels of immigration until relatively recently compared to most of the USA, it is going through the same process of cultural sterilization. They may simply be generic “whites” with no cultural ties to the South in another generation (to the extent there are enough of them left to matter by then).
This cultural sterilization process (yes, it is happening all over America) will, as I have predicted, broaden the appeal of a generic “White identity”, specifically in America, where White ethnic and regional differences are being erased by hipster globalization. I rewatched “My Cousin Vinny” again last week. It’s hilarious, but reminded me of how we no longer seem to have the Yankee/Southerner arguments and fun-making like we used to.
I think many of us are realizing that just being white Americans makes us more kin than “other”, since we are being swamped.

A relative of mine married into Yankees about 15 years ago. In the past few years they’ve stopped making redneck jokes and are frequently asking me for advice on firearms and self defense training. I gladly give it to them, knowing full well why they’re asking. Funny what a little local diversity can do to mend ties between estranged brothers.

Someone in a thread mentioned a few days ago a theory regarding the juuse, how they developed an ability to irritate their hosts to such a degree that there was no (limited) interbr33ding between host and guest. The irritation kept them on edge creating a constant paranoia; the guests were always in fear that they’d be singled out and d3ded. The result was massive ingroup identity and cohesion. The outgroup, the hosts, really were irritated by their guests, the guests knew it, all of which reinforced the irritating behavior. They would have interbr33d themselves out of existence were it not for this newly evolved ability to make themselves irritating to everyone everywhere.

As a Southerner, I can say that Igor’s assessment is correct, and reflects my own thoughts upon reading the climatological post the other day. There’s a reason poor whites who would never own a slave fought for the Confederacy–they were fighting for their homes and their patrimony, not for an institution that benefited the planter class, which was incredibly small. I live in the rural South (South Carolina), and what Igor writes is true: we are deeply connected to our homes and families. We’ve come more mobile, and we view “transplants” (Northerners come South) with mixed attitudes (we like the money and investment, but we don’t want them bringing their politics with them, though my experience is that many are conservatives fleeing progressive lunacy in Northern States), but there are still deep connections to family names and ancestral homes. In a small Southern town or region, everyone knows each other, or someone related to you.
Race relations are more nuanced here. There’s a lot of self-segregation–black and white parts of town, for example–but blacks and whites work together and go to the same restaurants, etc. We might not always eat _together_ at the same table, but go to any barbecue joint and you’ll see whites and blacks all enjoying the same food and camaraderie. Gavin McInnes put it thusly: “Southerners hate blacks in theory, but like them in practice; Northerners like blacks in theory, but hate them in practice.” It rings true.
Regardless, Igor’s right. The South is God’s Country (at least from our perspective), and we’re not going to leave for cooler weather (at least as long as there’s air-conditioning, haha). If anything, y’all should move down here! The girls are prettier (and know how to cook), the weather is better (except for the humidity), and the food is amazing. People are generally polite and welcoming, and will help each other out. It’s the last bastion of everything good in America. We get dumped on a lot, but, you know, haters gonna hate.

I think the South is losing a lot of its former identity as a white bastion. Immigration, economic development, and internal population shifts are turning it into a racially polyglot bunch of strip malls and fast food franchises next to the interstate. Traffic in many areas, particularly Atlanta, is insane.
I think you will see the rise of much more white identity in the dispossessed areas of the rural North — like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan — where whites have been losing jobs and status for decades, and remain aware of their white identity because the North remains remarkably segregated. There are still a lot of towns in the rural North that are 99 to 100% white, and the residents regard the negrified cites as practically foreign countries.
I can tell you that I see a hell of a lot more Confederate flags in the rural North than I do in the South…

How many rank and file white volk have even registered that expressions of white separatism and its cognates is now verboten? Somewhat ironic, as a lot of them practice white separatism in ‘safe communities’, so they need not stand in its defense.
