I recall reading on here that the biggest problem for jews is the globalization of Noticing.

I started skeet shooting so as to better handle moving targets (have ranges changed? only time I went, the targets were static.)

I do 2 gun for the same reason. I’m not a soldier, never had that kind of training, so these comps were all new to me. Static range shooting is great for getting used to a firearm, but there’s only so much you can do after a while. Getting out on a dynamic range puts you under pressure, you mess up constantly, and that’s the value. Knowing what to do when things go wrong.
It’s also about the most fun you can have without being butt nekkid.

Ironsides, it depends where you are. Back home, we have one match day per month (usually second sat of the month, and not in winter), and you rotate through various disciplines.
In spring/summer there’s other events as well, basically something you can do every week from May-Sept.
Join a Gun Club (or Rod and Gun Club as I have), join the NRA, or GoA (Gun Owners of America, they think the NRA are a bunch of pussies), and get involved.
$100 a year for a family membership at the R & G, daily match fees are $20, you have to do your part in running the events, but that’s a blast as well.
YMMV depending on where you are, city slickers are probably SOL, match wise, blue stater non-urbanites, you’ll have to tell me.

Thomas Jefferson had no illusions about the nature of black people. In his notes on the state of Virginia he made it pretty clear they were dumb shortsighted and smelly and of inferior body and mind. He was also very clear that the two races could not live together except as master and slave.
His ownership of slaves while opposing the institution of slavery was not cuckery or hypocrisy. He regarded black people as being incapable of taking care of themselves. He believed it would be cruel to just turn them out, in the same way it would be cruel to just give a minor child his “freedom” at 10 years old and expect them to make it. He did favor expatriation.

It is such a square and normal thing to say but you are right. Awareness. Due care.
That is absolutely the main lesson to be drawn here. Self defense situations have pretty reliable stages. Of course, sometimes some stages are skipped or passed through quickly, while success at an earlier stage means later stages are obviated.
But if you fail to perceive that you have been selected and if the escalation is shortened to just an ambush, then you are going to have big problems at the bad-guy’s Initial Entry in your reacting, covering, moving, and counterattacking.
It is all about Available Time To Act (ATTA).
However, if you are alert, you may leave, avoid, or preempt, or you may have good habits that reduce the (usually fight-finishing) impact of the bad guy’s initial entry. This is where we need to train very strong habits of cover guarding, getting off the X (getting off his line of attack), and immediate, brutal counterattacking.
In my opinion, self defense classes don’t train realistically enough for dealing with initial entries (or anything else in fact). They believe in silly things like “diagnosis” (I will see it coming and block it) and that they will have plenty of ATTA to carry out multi-part technique-based responses to attacks.
That will never happen. If you are training something complex, if it is very “technique-based”, if it requires a “set up”, then it just won’t work. It won’t happen in the street like it does in the dojo and it will happen much faster while you may be off balance.
If you are not already in position (which is why constant good posture and balance is central to good fighting) then you just won’t have time.
Anyway, let me offer the following, which, in my studies, I have identified as the most common formal stages of any self defense fight.
When training, we should focus on skills related to these scenarios but bearing in mind that these scenarios are *dynamic*, i.e., we are constantly going into and out of them, flowing into the other stages. The most dangerous points in any fight – once it has started – are in transitioning between these stages.
1, Selection
2, Escalation – attack may be launched at any moment
3. Initial Entry – characterized by occurring from various distances and with varying amounts of prior warning
4. Freefighting (including breaking off and re-entering) – at this distance we cannot touch each other unless we bring out weight forward
5. Armslength fighting (including breaking off and re-entering) – we can essentially put hands on each other without shifting our weight
6. Standing grappling (including breaking off and re-entering). This is a distance where the front knee is able to touch the opponent. The is the *true* elbow-hitting distance.
Optimally we should have the basics for all of these distances.
The main tasks?
1. Protect the head and neck from blows and capture
2. Protect the waist from capture

This should serve as a lesson about street awareness. I’m not a martial arts expert, but life experience at least has shown me that your average modern huwhyte(and apparently some non-huwhytes) are far too trusting in allowing people to push into their personal space.
You don’t let another man into your space on the street like that, period. That old guy had to have been drunk or fresh from Nigeria and expecting to find Wakanda.
There are almost always clear warning signs of an impending n0g attack. All the way from trying to “punk” you with disrespect, up to full out assault. Sometimes all it takes is to verbally check them with volume. I’ve used my voice to back down groups of them, but I’m tall and made it believable.
The stuff I see people let these people get away with, even just with homeless people…letting bums come up and corner them or even try to touch them, and the nice huwhyte people just take it out of social embarrassment.
People used to self-censor their jokes in the workplace to appear “open minded” and feel like sellouts for it. Now they’re willing to get stomped on the street to avoid making the crackheads uncomfortable.
