The Great American Middle-Class of the 20th Century will come to be seen by future historians as a societal anomaly. A once-in-a-thousand years era in which the human idyll was achieved….and lost, or killed….as quickly as it appeared.
There will be much brow furrowing over the whys and hows it was lost, motivated by incredulity that such a paradise existed and, worse, that it was so carelessly discarded. They will cast about in the records for any answers to the puzzle, hoping to find clues providing a roadmap for reconstructing that paradise.
Dismally, they will wonder, was it a one-off?
