The residents of Idaho didn’t ask for or vote for the importation of these refugees. It was foisted upon us.

They could have and should have envisaged women becoming a part of government because Greece and rome failed in part because of women’s liberation and consequent population decline and Rome failed in part because of immigration. And they did legislate against women in government, but not immigrants voting. Moreover they could probably have passed that, unfortunately legislating against slavery may well have been politically impossible.

That we could give them one month (and the shortest month at that) rather than teaching their history AS history.

That said, likely the South SHOULD have avoided joining the union and instead formed their own but allied country and a Southern (rather than Continental) Congress to pursue mutual defense but otherwise independent policies post-revolution; they’d have leaked fleeing slaves like a sieve but been free of the tariffs and other impositions of the North.
Joining a union dominated by yankees was their error. This I understand… but the point remains, to be the ‘genius’ and ‘far-seeing’ men they’re given credit for, they should have realized that their own wealth should have been secondary to the birth of future White children.
Many men during the Revolutionary Era pledged, indeed, their very “lives, fortunes, and sacred honor”… that SHOULDN’T have been mere words, which, by keeping slavery, they maintained their fortunes for the sake of future generations. Genetics is forever, and diversity plus proximity = breeding.
Granted, you can’t blame them for not foreseeing the totality of ill-effects of freed negroes, but they certainly should have seen the very possibility of slavery ending and then having on hand a handful of 3/5ths, soon to become 5/3rd more trouble than they were worth.
And at the time of 13 colonies, I don’t think a separate South as a nation would have been a necessity… some 70 years later, of course, it became THE pressing issue, the aftermath of which we’re still feeling the sting to this day.
