Via reader “Game for the Hunt”, a scathing quote from a great man that presages the current de-balling of America’s “conservatives”.

The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.”

G.K. Chesterton, Illustrated London News, 4/19/24

A simple ‘heh’ will do here.

If you are not a liberal in your twenties you have no heart, and if your not a Conservative by your Forties you’ve got no brain. Not originally coined by Churchill but used by him back when the terms had clearly defined meanings.

    • If you ever were a liberal, then you’re a shithead, and if you’re not a reactionary by your forties, then you don’t have a pair.

    • If you’re not a “liberal” in your twenties, you managed somehow to avoid being brainwashed by leftist professors.

    • Greg Eliot says:

Just for the record, I believe it was a Frenchman, and the quote was, if memory serves: “Whoever isn’t a liberal at twenty suffers from lack of heart… whoever is still a liberal at the age of forty suffers from lack of head.”

      • tspark156 says:

I was going to say suffering from a lack of head is a common French problem and then I realised it is also something beta males regularly suffer from.

  2. And that was 1924, the year the presidential election choice was between an incumbent conservative republican and a conservative democrat (you read that correctly) challenger. We’ll never live to see anything like that.

Chesterton would have an immediate heart attack if he could see today’s “conservatives” in action.

    • larazablanca says:

Even liberals back then would have decried non-white populations destroying our neighbourhoods, schools and cities. How far we’ve fallen!

      • Captain Obvious says:

Secretly, the Liberals still do – it’s the foundation for their ardent support of Planned Murderhood, and why they all flee to their gated Whiteopias – they need just enough malleable Braunen und Schwartzen to destroy the Western Civilization & Christianity, but not so many of the Braunen und Schwartzen that the Gates of Whiteopia might be in danger of being stormed.

    • Tusket says:

      Chesterton was English.

  3. PA says:

The indelible image of cuckservatism, as pointed out by the late Lawrence Auster at the time, is the photos of nice White people cleaning up after the 2011 London riots.

  4. Captain Obvious says:

How are we going to “correct” this mistake: Allowing the Eskimos to seize control of the Federal Reserve, to invent almost $10TRILLION in fake money since 2008 [by the fall of the 2016, it will have been nine years since Eskimos Bernanke and Paulson started it], and to simply hand all that fake money directly to themselves. Have you seen how many Eskimo financiers are now on the Forbes/Fortune lists? Un-creating that fake money will require ripping apart the entire fabric of the society. And the Eskimos will unleash every penny of it to destroy The Donald.

Not on topic, but is it possible that Pman is actually a better Shiv wielder than our host? CH is more elegant with it, but Pman is like carpet bombing.

I agree with him about conservatives , I have said it before and I will say it again, people are generally liberal. There is a reason for that; stupidity and hatred. Conservatives primary mistake is in assuming that liberals are good-natured people that simply have the wrong philosophy or are ignorant. I have seen the left in action. They are not motivated by compassion or concern, they are motivated by hatred. Does anyone think the shrieking, hysterical feminists simply have the wrong philosophy? The pro-immigration crowds aren’t concerned for the migrants as much as they hate the current residents. The people that want higher taxes don’t want to make things more efficient as much as they want to destroy successful people, or destroy a family’s estate with death taxes. There is demonstrably no large scale benefit to death taxes apart from breaking things up. The environmental twits hate industry and wealth more than they care for the environment. The homosexual agenda wants to attack traditional morals and religions more than they want marriage. The bank regulators hardly know a thing about banking, hedge fund owners and bankers are just the new bogeyman.

    • Vagina dominator says:

The essential problems are not of people’s ideals or philosophies but the opposite – that they are ruled by their emotions, and their emotions are rarely noble, but rather stupid, thoughtless, free-riding, scared, envious, obedient, and most of all, reactive.

Who was it – some Persian king, I think – that observed that people don’t really want to be free. They just desire a kindly master.

I would add that most are too stupid to even determine that.

    • Greg Eliot says:

Heh… negro John Eligon gets the by-line…

But at the end of the article the curtain flaps open to give a glimpse of one Sarah Cohen who “contributed” to this oh-whoa-is-dem-poor-darkies hitpiece.

      Every… fucking… time.

      • JohnDSee says:

You are 100% right, @Greg Eliot. Not that you needed me to tell ya. So many tells in the ‘article’, not the least being the general long-windedness of it. The first paragraph alone is a dead giveaway. Also, ‘fair housing’. Hah. Fair to those who work hard and save and commute? No. Bah.

  9. jamzw says:

Latter-day scepticism is fond of calling itself progressive; but scepticism is really reactionary. Scepticism goes back; it attempts to unsettle what has already been settled. Instead of trying to break up new fields with its plough, it simply tries to break up the plough.

We are learning to do a great many clever things…The next great task will be to learn not to do them.

It is a shallow critic that cannot see an eternal rebel at the heart of a conservative.

The madman is not the man who has lost his reason. The madman is the man who has lost everything but his reason.

You can only find truth with logic if you have already found truth without it.

He is a [sane] man who can have tragedy in his heart and comedy in his head.

A good man’s work is effected by doing what he does, a woman’s by being what she is.

I’m curious if anyone’s been keeping up with Canada attempting to ban Roosh?

I knew he’d have problems in Canada but didn’t keep up with his tour dates and didn’t realize till after the fact that our northern neighbors were losing their bowels along with whatever dignity they had left yesterday.

    This quote is spot on…
    Ageless

The more things change – the more they stay the same.

  12. Hugh Jenniks says:

“Liberals have a new wish every time their latest wish is granted. Conservatives should make them spell out their principles and ideals. Instead of doing this, conservatives allow liberals to pursue incremental goals without revealing their ultimate destination. ” – Joseph Sobran

  13. pyrrhus says:

Churchill was a cuckservative, in the end. He betrayed his base to the socialists, who jammed them into public housing….
