Bigger brains are associated with bigger bodies, but the very large male-female brain size discrepancy suggests something else is going on besides correlated brain-body size dimorphism.

The cognitive test was limited to a 13-item verbal-numerical test to be completed in 2 minutes, which ought to be enough to grade the general population.

Where did all the male brain size advantage go? 0.2 of a standard deviation works out to 3 IQ points. Nothing much, you may say, considering that the test-retest reliability of the Wechsler is 4 IQ points, but if this is a true representation of male-female differences, then we can calculate what it would mean for the male/female balance at the higher levels of ability. As you may have seen in previous posts, if men are really 3 points brighter than women, and women’s standard deviation is narrower than men, say 14 rather than 15 points, then this makes a big difference at the higher reaches of intelligence.
Here are the estimates, if one assumes men have an IQ of 102, (sd 15) and women an IQ of 99, (sd 14).
At IQ 130: 69.8% men
At IQ 145: 80.3% men[…]
This is a very substantial paper. It shows a massive sex difference in brain size of 1.4 d, and when one factors in that brain size relates to intelligence at a correlation of about 0.28, then the predicted intelligence difference will be a large 0.39 d, but the observed difference is only half that. Paradoxical. One implication is that there are sex-linked differences in brain structure and dendritic arborization which overcome pure size differences. If so, how is this balancing act achieved? Why don’t all people have the smaller, more craftily wired version of the human brain, which presumably requires a smaller blood supply. On the other hand, it might be that the cognitive testing has not been wide enough, and has ignored tasks in which males have an advantage. By the way, if one sex has an advantage in one skill, this is not an error of testing, it is a triumph of testing that a real difference has been revealed.
Speculatively, it’s not just cognitive tests that could be ignoring tasks which favor men. Colleges could be selecting students based on criteria that likewise ignore areas in which men have an advantage.

Had detailed articles on just this subject, and evidence that at the very begining of IQ testing that the testers/creators fell victim to the white knight effect and were frightened of revealing that women are dumber than men.
So IQ tests were deliberately made gender neutral, and when male and female intelligence were compared it was done at an age (early teens when girls momentarily get the jump on boys) so as to show that girls are smarter than boys and by extension women are smarter than men. Which is demonstrably false, even today. All it takes is a small amount of rationality to see all the assistance that girls are given in the School system and Universities as well as in the workplace to see how low on the IQ totem pole women really are. A rational look at all of mankind’s achievements in science, exploration and innovation will reveal that it is intelligent( in particular white) male risk takers who have shaped this world and not women or the weak men that continue to apologize for them. Sure there will be one outlier such Marie Curie,(who is a rounding error on the spreadsheet of intelligence) but by larger it is men who are more intelligent than women. So when someone says women are smart than men, push back and push back hard and if you think this small action won’t make a difference try sleeping in a room with a mosquito. Spread the word.

Brain size is tricky. It is a reasonable guess that the smaller te organism, the more evolutionary design work goes into miniaturization.
An empirical study of what reasonably be assumed to be equally intelligent species with significant body weight suggests that brain weight, controlling for intelligence, scales as weight ** (2/3). (** stands for exponentiation, think Fortran). So even if men and women were equally intelligent, the on average smaller women would have a smaller brain weight.
[CH: as i mentioned in the post, the substantial brain size sex gap is larger than what would be predicted from a simple sexual dimorphism scaling calculation. There’s something else going on here that would give feminists heartache.]

I can explain how an internal-combustion engine works, its four major systems and various sub-systems, and I can diagnose and repair it if needs be. I can operate a tractor-trailer, fork-lift, pallet jack, cherry-picker, and various military vehicles, wheeled and tracked (from my ware-housing and OTR truck-driving days, and military service). I served in the military for over twenty years and spent another twenty in the civilian sector: insurance industry, retail, hospitality, trucking, medical, law-enforcement, civil service and can explain how those industries operate.
But, I will be god-damned if I can explain how women walk in high-heels or how they can get up in the morning, put on make-up and girly clothes, and still make it to work on time. So, there are limits to the male brain and cognitive abilities.

I forgot to mention, though its in the article. Grey matter for men and women is about the same after adjusting for body size. However white matter is not, androgen hormones encourage more growth of white matter and the bulk of male/female differences in brain size is a result of increased white matter. Of course, it gets even worse when you realize that the DENSITY in males is also much greater. You could get a hint of that at weight differences, but volume measurements won’t pick it up.
