The thing is, race is not a social construct. Think of a rainbow. There is no sharp border between blue and green, for example. Yet blue and green are recognized as colors.
With race/ethnicity, the same is true but the case is stronger. If you plot some measurable values that are not mainly environmental (yes, skin color but a lot of other physical measurements) you do NOT get an even distribution, you get clusters, with much fewer occurrencies in between the clusters. It would be as if the rainbow were to get much less luminous in certain chunks of spectrum. So, yes, there are discernible races, although some people fall in between.
This in NOT a matter of opinion.
But as to how important this is, or what to make of it – if anything – that is very much a matter of opinion. Including whether you care, and whether you want to classify say four races, or a larger number, depending on how high a peak you require to qualify its constituent members as a race.
