I've gone back and forth on the global warming issue (the "experts" should stop calling it climate change), but over time the vast accumulation of data by sensors and thermometers all over the world, terrestrial, oceanic, and orbital, conclusively proves that global mean temperature is rising.
And rising fast.
You can't accuse a thermometer of bias.
How much is the product of natural climatic cycles and how much is human-induced is debatable, but that the world is heating up is not, and if it continues on its current trajectory then mass worldwide famines are all but assured.

Perhaps they had seen alarming data on global warming and have decided the best course of action is no longer to convince the masses to give up their cars but to force the choice upon them by making ICE car ownership cost-prohibitive.
