What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right
Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, “a fecalized environment.”
In plain English: s— is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. In Senegal, corruption ruled, from top to bottom. Go to the post office, and the clerk would name an outrageous price for a stamp. After paying the bribe, you still didn’t know it if it would be mailed or thrown out. That was normal.
One of my most vivid memories was from the clinic. One day, as the wait grew hotter in the 110-degree heat, an old woman two feet from the medical aides – who were chatting in the shade of a mango tree instead of working – collapsed to the ground. They turned their heads so as not to see her and kept talking. She lay there in the dirt. Callousness to the sick was normal.

Probably the white admixture. The most modern areas in Africa where Liberia and Ethiopia; Liberia was ruled by former slaves (and tended to attract the whiter ones since they were most annoyed by being second fiddle to the white man) and the elite of Ethiopia had very Caucasian features and light skin.
Liberia went down the drain when the natives seized power (1980) and the same is true for Ethiopia (1974); both by military coups backed by foreign powers. The downward spiral in Liberia killed half a million while 1.5 million lost their lives in the red terror and famine of Ethiopia.

I did go see her in Toronto, and her subsidized housing, at something like $300 a month, was a marvel. If you see the movie by Michael Moore, it shows the “ghetto of Toronto,” which was quite nice. She was living quite fine with her one kid, had call-forwarding and an internet computer and all kinds of things.
We fooled around a bit in her bed — coulda fucked her — but like me with the asian chick in Vancouver, I lost interest. I dunno . . . easy fucks, but not particularly worth it. If I could have gotten pregnant from her, I wouldn’t have set one foot in her apt.

Call forwarding, voice mail, call waiting, and call display on the Bell Vista phones warn’t cheap – $12 a month in early 2000s if memory serves. We certainly couldn’t afford that in our household; we just a clunky old Northern Telecom phone with an answering machine. You’d never know who was calling without call display.

Maybe 2-3 years ago, I saw pictures,of Western African immigrants, dressed in their garishly colored garb fighting over stacks of bottled water left curbside for London marathon runners. Canada, unfortunately, does. I was walking in Vancouver’s downtown today, lightly scrutinizing the nonwhites. They’re swarming everywhere. But — because of certain economic factors and a more balanced social net (and cherrypicking the best of the foreigners with degrees) Vancouver gets the pick of the litter.
So crime here, is OBVIOUSLY low. And wealth is high — but much of that is due to a commodity-based economy and massive shipping into the rich interior. Plus the new tech firms locating here. I’ve been there a few times to a few different places. It’s difficult to compare it altogether except to say that the parts with predominant Muslims and Animists are worse than the parts that are mostly Christian or non religious. Where borders between the religions exist, there tends to be more violence. Places with a stronger colonial legacy are often much nicer than not. I met a Catholic priest once who said he went there and found that the massive amount of charity money flowing in from the west somehow corrupts people. He said the more charity money comes in, the more promiscuous the women and the lazier the men. As well, theft is rampant not out of desperation but because it’s just easier to take someone else’s things. Property rights are not established. He said China has essentially created their own colonies there with their own people to extract resources that westerners are too afraid to take. He said he saw an improvement in places that rejected charity money. Make up your own mind but what is rather silly is the bit about how we send charity money whilst the Chinese profit from it.

That reminds me of a scene I encountered about fifteen years ago in Cyprus. Wife and I were driving through the mountains on the Greek Cypriot side of Cyprus, when we came across a road maintenance gang.

African countries were not ready to be given their independence. They should have stayed subjects of European colonial powers for another 100 years, and maybe then they’d be ready for it.
You can’t take people that did not even go through the agricultural age on their own, and expect them to magically morph into modern people. It takes centuries of socialization to bring them up to a civilization level that is somewhat close to white people’s civilization level.
And we’re making things worse by continuously sending them aid. It does nothing for them, zero.

I think it’s possible for African societies that get steadily more technologically advanced, to elevate their IQ levels above where they are now.
When whites arrived in Africa they were primitive hunter gathers, and now they have advanced beyond that stage. Under colonial rule they were gradually improving, and were able to do jobs adequate for their human development capabilities. Once whites were forced out, that steady progress was destroyed, and they regressed back to a semi-primitive state.
Basically, under white rule, it will be steady progress, under black rule, chaos, and no progress.
