A great comment from Rotten, on how Whites from different American regions have responded to the forced desegregation of their nation.
Heartiste has talked about ‘Good Schools’ and other hidden taxes on whites, like the above examples of regulations and HOAs.
He’s also commented on how these taxes drive down “affordable family formation” by significantly raising the costs to have kids.
All of this relates to how boomers handled desegregation.
The California/Western approach was Racial Covenants, but the govt outlawed this (example: two future presidents lived in all white Compton, CA in 1947, blocks away from the beach and 6 miles from downtown or 5 miles to the port, but, by 1987, Compton is the most famous ghetto in America.)
The Sothern Approach was to live in the same neighborhood but have segregated facilities (similar to today’s Northern Ireland). This was struck down by courts (famous example, Selma AL was turned from a prosperous nice working city into an impoverished hellhole).
The Northern & Midwest Example was for whites to live in and sell to their own ethnic groups informally and extralegally. A city might have a little Italy and a little Germany and a little Poland. And some of this approach survives today in places like Madison, WI. But, The government mostly crushed this with school bussing, part of the Johnson and Nixon administration’s attempt to crush the power of ethnic whites within the Democrat party. (White people fled bussing, their ethnic neighborhoods didn’t re form, and midwestern cities like Detroit, or more recently Milwaukee, became shitholes).
The last legal was to discriminate was to the Puritan method (found almost exclusively in cities founded by former Puritans). Simply make everything so expensive that the diversity can’t come. To this day, San Francisco, Boston, Portland, Seattle, are all relatively peaceful and prosperous. It’s the only currently legal way to prevent diversity. But this costly model isn’t affordable or sustainable. White fertility is such places nears zero.
And cities everywhere are now trying to copy the Puritan approach, which is making the bigger problem (low white fertility due to high costs and the destruction of the white lower and middle classes) even worse. Moreover, those whites who are able to buy their way out of diversity by paying hidden taxes coalition with the Democrat party to preserve their way of life from all of the diversity that free enterprise will inflict on them. And this coalition prevents any honest discussion of race in America.
Western Whites – Racial Covenants
Southern Whites – Jim Crow
Midlands Whites – Ethnic nepotism
Puritan Whites – Discriminatory pricing
Jim Crow has received the brunt of GoodWhite Fake Moralizing, but all four approaches are designed to help Whites avoid the same end: racially mixed District 9 neighborhoods and all the crime, dreariness, annoyances, and ugliness that entails.
On the moral ledger, Puritan Whites are NO MORE MORAL than the BadWhites they have spent the past sixty-odd years demonizing for social status points and virtue sniveling accolades. We recently moved from a diverse, rapidly degrading suburban neighborhood that was just a tad over half white to a city even further out that is literally all white. The most common responses we get when we tell friends about our move is “oh yeah, I hear it’s nice there”, “they have great schools”, “my mom lives there and she loves it”, and my personal favorite “beautiful town, but it’s really white, isn’t it?” The last one is usually said like it’s a detriment, with a snarky little grin like they think they’re being edgy.
We just reply with “yep”.

When they give that last comment, tell them it’s horrible, it’s scary, and you just barely manage to make it by. Should keep them in line and avoid such areas.

Brings up something that happened at a trade show many years ago, when my parents had their own small business.
Some chap with what I now know as cuck physiognomy came in, placed an order, then stopped to chat with me and my father. He was talking about the town he lived in, and he started saying something along the lines of,

I’ll make some small clarifications regarding Rotten’s summary.
1. Asian ethnics maintain “Northern and Midwestern White” approach that Rotten describes. Muslims follow the same pattern. A smart politician in Trump’s circle should create the government regulation and lawfare framework to break that ethnic solidarity. It would do the nation good.
2. Whites in the rural South follow an informal discrimination process. Put simply, we don’t transact business with Blacks. This is accomplished many ways, the best of which is by providing poor service to black customers, i.e.: previously competent businesses suddenly become incompetent.
So that you don’t think I’m just blowing smoke up your ass, this is the explanation my great-grandfather gave me when I was a child visiting his farm in Texas. His father served in Florida Infantry. Many years later, my grandmother said to me (in a context I’ve forgotten), “We don’t trouble them, and they don’t trouble us.” Ten years after the city pool at the county seat integrated, the city pool was replaced, then inexplicably cracked, and then closed due to exorbitant cost for repairs. If you carefully read Southern news reports, you’ll find instances like this in public and private business everywhere. It’d make Ayn Rand proud.
3. The Puritan discrimination approach is used all across America, and isn’t necessarily the wrong approach if properly managed. The difficulty with the approach is not that it increases costs – that’s good – it’s that it doesn’t sufficiently impact minorities AND it’s applied mostly by Puritan-descended folks who are trying to discriminate against other whites who aren’t sufficiently well bred. Yet another flaw is that some minorities, such as Jews and northeast Asians, can hack the system to gain admittance. The best application of the Puritan method is universal professional and trade licensure paired with strict enforcement and heavy fines for non-compliance. Poor (& stupid) whites can generally manage a single trade’s licensure. Foreigners, illegal aliens, and criminality-prone ethnicities are unable to comply, and thereby fail.

I don’t know if it’s a Southern thing or just a local thing, but our paper gets away with reporting black crime by listing their full name. Can’t tell you how many times I’ll read a name on the blotter like “John Desharznez Williams” or “Michael Boostrix Berry.” If they left out the middle name, you might think he was white. Granted, most of the names are google first, middle and last, but for the mostly ordinary (that is, white sounding) names, it’s good of them to clear up any confusion for us.

If the crime involves using heroin, the perp is almost always white. Almost without exception, all other crimes around here are by the ethnic crowd. You don’t need to see a mugshot or read a middle name. There is a commentor on our local paper who attaches a mugshot and rap sheet from the prosecutor’s office on every criminal the paper doesn’t include a perp’s picture.

They try to eliminate the Alien by making the air lock impenetrable for anyone EXCEPT THE MOST PARASITIC ALIEN.

The money only approach does work (at least in the short term), in that if there are any black folks rich enough to afford their neighborhoods, they’re always among the talented tenth. Smart, educated, and they hate blacks too. The white folks then get to feel good about themselves, because LOOK WE HAVE BLACK FRIENDS/NEIGHBORS/CO-WORKERS etc., and they don’t/won’t realize that these blacks aren’t representative of most blacks.
And don’t forget about regression to the mean.
I see this same thing in Christian circles too. For example, a young pastor goes to seminary, and a few of his professors are black, he meets there a few black pastors and some of their congregation, and ends up thinking he knows black people and they’re great folks, RACISM BAD, and he never questions whether the people he met are representative of the whole.

This discrim pricing thing reminds me of what PJ Rourke mused about 20 years ago before the great invasions. He noted that South Africa was openly racist while other countries were like this:
1. USA with indians (i think) “we’re not racist, we’d let them live with us but … oops we killed them all”

Portland inflated their real estate prices by severely limiting new development in the county, and now the collar counties. It was a sweet deal if you were there when it happened. You end up with houses like my relatives. Built 70-80 years ago, maybe 1200-1500 square feet, on city lots that sell for $400-$500k, in less than stellar neighborhoods.
And they still effed it up.

A good post but I don’t think that the Boomers are as much to blame as people think. (Since I am a Boomer, perhaps I’m being defensive.) But the “civil rights laws” and the desegreagation efforts were mostly the doing of the “Greatest Generation “(sic). The oldest Boomer was 19 in 1965 and a lot of Boomer s only became influential in public policy in the 1980s, after a great deal of the damage was done. As Sailer has pointed out on his blog, a lot of the later Boomers are the victims of the White Death.

I spent a couple weeks last winter in Gulf Coast Florida. Between Fort Myers and Naples, the population is quite white and I swear a majority of them live in gated communities. It seems like new development is mainly more gated communities. So, this would seem to be a mixture of the Puritan price-em-out technique and the HOA drive-them-off-with-rules-they-won’t-like strategy. Many of these places are somewhat affordable, since clearly most white people can afford to live in them. There are a lot of retired people to be sure, and many people are former midwesterners. Hardly anybody seems to be from NY or NJ, in sharp contrast to the Florida east coast. It seemed like 90%+ of the population were white Americans and everybody spoke English. A surprise for sure, as previously I had only seem Miami and Jacksonville.
