How We’ve Changed

Visitor Nobody leaves a despairing comment at the Goodbye, America online photojournal.

I’m not even mad, just… sad and disappointed. Why did I have to be born at a time of such filth, of such moral inversion, of such rotting decay? Why couldn’t I be born at a time when people were actually sane, pious, respectful and dignified?

…The other day my mom showed me these old postcards and black&white photographs of her mother when she was a child. Anyway, I must have spent a good half-hour just admiring the words written in those postcards. There was such a beautiful simplicity and innocence in the expressions that people used back then… and such humble reverence towards higher authority, too (be that authority God, or an older relative, or a cherished parishioner, etc). It made my heart ache with longing for another era where this was the norm, rather than the exception. Now people always have to be cold, sarcastic and… dismissive, I guess, when speaking to others. Being ironic all the time is “cool”, speaking with sincerity and seriousness is not. Mocking everything that is precious to people and gives their life meaning (be that their faith, their culture, their traditions, their family), is fun and rebellious. Edgy. No one shows respect for anything anymore. No one values the things that elevate Man above beast, because sacrifice is hard and debauchery isn’t. It all makes me sick.

Sorry for rambling but, this picture really hit me hard. This is one depressing site, but one that needs to exist so people living in the West can wake up to what’s really going on here. Keep it going.

Moving. We’ve lost something, and replaced it with something else. People are beginning to perceive the replacement as nothing like the progress promised by those who claim the mantle of the right side of history.

Jonathan Haidt describes five moral senses: Harm, fairness, loyalty, authority, and purity. He argues that conservatives possess a morality that is equally balanced among all five senses, while liberal morality de-emphasizes loyalty, authority and purity, and stresses harm and faaaairrrrnesss. Today, liberal morality is ascendent.

Strauss and Howe have a theory of long-term civilizational evolution called the “Four Turnings”, which they contend explains the rise and eventual fall of all civilizations. The Turnings follow a cycle beginning with High, Awakening, Unraveling, and ending in Crisis, which each lasting about 20-40 years. Currently, we are entering the Fourth Turning: Crisis.

Peter Turchin coined “cliodynamics”, the name for his theory of repeating historical cycles of violence and social instability. He believes there are 50 year cycles of crashing and peaking levels of violence and that we are due for another peak, a big one according to him, around 2020.

Islam has a term called Asabiyyah, which means group cohesion and shared purpose. Asabiyyah is strongest at the birth of a civilization (its nomadic stage) and gradually decreases as the civilization advances to pure individualism. The crooked celebration of Bruce Jenner’s mental illness is the apotheosis of extreme individualism.

Alexander Tytler had a theory of cyclical democracy, which states:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over a loss of fiscal responsibility, always followed by a dictatorship. The average of the world’s great civilizations before they decline has been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith,
From spiritual faith to great courage,
From courage to liberty,
From liberty to abundance,
From abundance to selfishness,
From selfishness to complacency,
From complacency to apathy,
From apathy to dependency,
From dependency back again to bondage.”

If Tytler’s conclusion is correct, this year America exceeded the average length for a democratic form of government by 33 years.

America, according to Tytler’s theory, is currently in the last stage, utterly dependent on corn and porn and moving quickly into bondage (the surveillance state, SJW witch hunts, and militarized police).

There is another historical cycle theory, possibly originating with Turchin, which offers that inequality drives the rise and fall of civilizations. In this theory, the first cycle is marked by organic egalitarianism, and the fourth cycle by extreme inequality of wealth and social influence. America is in this reading in the fourth cycle.

All these theories of history as an engine that repeats cycles ad infinitum, through birth, life, and death, may share a single genesis, and a single fate. What that is, no one knows, but the correlation of these historical cycles with the personal evidence of decline that you, reader Nobody, has observed in your own life and in your own small way, may be more profound than anyone can conceivably imagine. This is the reason why the subheading to “Goodbye, America” reads “The decline is in the details”.

A libertarian autist will never get this about humans. He is removed from the sphere of human emotion, and can only see rises and falls and chaotic social change through the lens of MUH SUPPLY AND DEMAND CURVE, which means he misses so much, so very much, of the little ominous details that herald social collapse and culture death. You, Nobody, have seen more in the plaintive expressions of your grandmother’s postcards than a million Bryan Caplans in their gated communities or a million Cheap Chalupas traveling to thousands of ethnic restaurants will ever see in their cramped, pinched lives.

The CH take is that inequality, acute individualism, SCALE, the cultural triumph of leftoid morality, and Diversity™ are all converging at a time, right now, and to a point so sharp that it will pierce the heart of the West, and possibly kill her for good. Our people have changed, literally, through demographic dispossession, and spiritually, through character dispossession.

That’s the pessimistic view. An optimistic view: We still take the spear to the heart, but survive the blow to be reborn into a new cycle, once again grounded and intimately familiar with the wisdom of the Gods of the Copybook Headings. We reconnect to ancient Alpine rhythms and once again find our balance with the world and our greatness within ourselves.

Are you a betting man?

I agree this is the single most important question at the moment. We are at the crossroads or very close to it.

You’ll notice that the backfires that started since last year – GamerGate, Puppies, now Trump’s campaign momentum and this cuckservative meme going mainstream – all share in common to correctly estimate the gravity of the situation. People behind it mean war, and they are deadly serious about it, more serious than any effete leftoid would expect them to be I’d guess.

Now, bear in mind that as a wise man once said, a reset is not a revolution. If as it seems increasingly likely, strength has to be used at some point to regain control of the critical power structures, it doesn’t have to be a leftard bloodbath. It used to happen in the West not so long ago, see France’s Fifth Republic inception for instance.

More worrying to me is the emergence of credible leaders able to endure the media nuclear storm (Trump makes a perfect crash test dummy in that regard), and probably the real attempts on their life should they prove capable of surviving the hits of the media cerberi. Without them, the fear of social or even physical death will prevail in most of these people who would constitute the necessary aforementioned strength.

When a woman seeks masculine achievements such as career, money, power, education, etc., is she projecting her ideal man onto herself so that she may love herself more? Is this the psychological core of feminism? So when a woman cannot embody the feminine ideal, that is the creation and nurturing of new human life, she retires into a sort of auto-androphilia?

She was quite happy staying at home and raising her boys. “I was never bored. I got together with other women and the kids. We had a great time” she once told me.

I’ve never met a happy childless career woman. She either admits she made the wrong decision or, most often, becomes hostile toward the normal, toward family, toward ideal femininity — i.e., motherhood. The only way she stays halfway sane is auto-androphilia; that is, embodying manly virtue via career, power, etc., and then staring alone into a mirror and worshiping the wonderful man she made of herself.

I disagree, I’ve sensed stronger, more visceral disgust radiated by progs than ever by cons. Progs assert the perfectability of man, and exhibit disgust when men do not opt for progs’ perfection.

    • You’re both right. Yes, Durant was pretty much high-middlebrow, with some annoyingly cloy affectations (giving his wife co-authorship credit on his later volumes probably qualities as one of them). He suffers from some of the exaggerated fatalism, born of atheistic quietude, which some detect in Derbyshire in his depressive moments. I suppose, too, most of what’s best in Durant could be found in Toynbee.

But, within these limitations, Durant is quite relevant to many of our themes here. His introduction printed in the posthumous volume “Heroes of History” beautifully elucidates our problem in cadences at once musical and stinging:

“So the old instincts return unchained and untamed, and riot in crime, gambling, corruption, conscienceless moneymaking, and a sexual chaos in which love is sex–free for the male and dangerous for the race. Consultation gives way to confrontation; law yields to minority force; marriage becomes a short-term investment in diversified insecurities; reproduction is left to mishaps and misfits; and the fertility of incompetence breeds the race from the bottom while the sterility of intelligence lets the race wither at the top.” (p19)

Game on a personal level; preservation of our culture on a societal level; control of our people’s destiny on a global level.

Great post. It is not optimism, but realism and commitment. First, doomed social orders have no vitality. They die. The current state of affairs has the whiff of decay about it. What happens then, when it does disintegrate, and when people need order in their lives to live and carry on and rebuild, then is when the decision and the commitment to preserve the best of the old and to reject the failed deviations can come into play. And I am old enough that I remember the world before the current age of cynicism and vulgarity poured over it like a slow moving tide of liquescent garbage. What happened was a decision for the bad, and an abdication and failure to fight for the good by people who should have known better. And as long as people draw breath nothing is final. The coming years and decades will be eventful. I want my children and grandchildren to live in a better world than this pile of rubble, this carnival of depravity. It does not work. It cannot last. What replaces it is not yet determined. It’s up to us.

One benchmark for how far America has fallen is available in the history of the Revolution. My ancestors were mostly in the upland Carolinas then and all the males served in the patriot militias that drove the British out and toward disaster at Yorktown. These militias were organized at the most local of scales, that of rural neighborhoods and individual churches. A local leader might gather a dozen riders (the patriot forces were typically mounted) and lead them to a gathering of a score of other neighborhood squads, where an election of officers would take place. And almost magically a regiment of mounted riflemen thus appeared ready to smite the invaders.

Such a creation of a body of committed men would be impossible in most of America today. We are fragmented. We have lost the strength of autopoiesis.

Cyclic behavior is EVERYWHERE in mathematics [ergo physics, ergo chemistry, etc] – owing primarily to the foundational importance of Fourier Analysis. Which is exactly what Fourier Analysis predicts – overtones [or harmonics] upon overtones upon overtones.

But you are right, the sun exhibits cycles and so certainly since we depend on it, we must also exhibit cycles, that is a good point. Fourier analysis simply states that you can break some function into sinusoids. But I was talking more about human politics. Chaos theory is well known, I could use it here to say that small changes or events in the present can have large consequences in the future. We can barely predict the weather more than say 7 days out, there is a physical limit to how accurate a forecast can ever be. So above, I think he said something about there being a peak of something in 2020. How could anyone predict something like that? People used to say the stock market had cryptic cycles in it but I think presently, people believe price movement is random. So whilst there is fourier analysis used in the study of nature, randomness is also studied, I side more with politics looking random at any given moment.

Or had the kaiser Wilhelm not been incompetent at foreign politics, the German empire would have fared far better. But there are certain things that occur regardless. ‘Inequality’, really? Leftist morality is centered around *fighting* inequality, that’s the very basis of it. The root cause of the death of ‘the West’ is that we let Jews come into our countries and spread propaganda that’s purpose was to morally delegitimize us. Simply put we weren’t Jew wise. The Jews will never live among whites and just leave us alone to live our lives as we see fit, that is not something that is or will ever be on their agenda. Their whole thing is that they see themselves as morally superior thus fit to conquer and reshape all our societies in a pluralistic way so that we mix with other races and lose our identity. Jews are incompatible with white civilizations, they seek to dominate not coexist. They rationalize it by convincing themselves that they are making the world more just by ridding it of an immoral force i.e. us. They belong with their cousins the Arabs in the Middle East not in Europe or America.

He’s half right. Whites need to help PR, but it’s a bribe. Puerto Ricans must be bribed to stay in Puerto Rico, otherwise they move here (5000 a month is the current rate) and turn your town USA into the South Bronx circa 1975 or Springfield, Mass circa 2000. In other words, an unspeakable crime-ridden Section 8 shithole.

  53. Its called “bad luck”.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

    • > “Whenever this tiny minority is… driven out of a society” ——— But the question is whether this tiny minority will now be driven INTO EXTINCTION. I have long contended that the Dark Ages came about because the great minds of Athens and Rome failed to breed at replacement level fertility, and that we got 600 years of Dark Ages and 400 years of Middle Ages as a result.

Indeed, the view of the left is to return us to a state of nature — animals, where only individual “rights” matter to such an extreme extent that the “majority” have not rights. Until eventually a strongman comes in and the dictatorship part of the cycle begins.

What is so infuriating is how the left cannot see this or the insanity of their positions, or the state of the United States right now. I work with a lot of female “lawyers”. As I have stated here before, not only will they not agree with our desire for a return to respect for authority, majority rights, the views our grandparents held, marriage, family, children, decency, modesty, humbleness — they do not see any problem, at all, not one single problem, with what we see today: rampant porn, Miley Cyrus as role model, shows like “The View” but not just that, even “Fox News” is communist bullshit with playboy models reading from a teleprompter, rampant anti-white man propaganda everywhere, no free speech for those who believe in the traditions that created this country and have been the norm for 250 years.

The recent gay marriage decision is really a peak point, among many contenders. And the Bruce Jenner worship. This is the ultimate illustration of the left’s complete deference to individual rights with ZERO rights for the majority. Whites, of course, are the minority worldwide by a wide margin; the vast majority of the world is brown or black with dark hair and brown eyes. But using the terms within the subclass that constitutes the United States, the majority, still, state by state, voted to say that marriage is between a man and a woman, as it always has been. They usually did this at the state constitutional level. The constitution is *the* foundation document that “is” the law. Then we have a U.S. Supreme Court, which is 44% Eskimo even though Eskimos allegedly constitute only 2% of the population, use the bullshit oxymornic concept of “substantive due process” to allow one faggot to overrule an entire state’s laws, as expressed through the majority of the people. Thirty-three states or so. It is maddeningly indefensible, as any lawyer who actually understands the Constitution knows. Does not even pass the sniff test. The ruling made by the majority would be sanctionable as a frivolous argument under Rule 11 in a sane world, if law was above politics, and every decent lawyer knows it. Scalia’s dissent (and the others) are correct, period, no room for debate.

How can the left think we should *celebrate* Bruce Jenner. Leave him alone, don’t hang him from a tree? Sure. But celebrate his “courage”? It’s fucking awful.

And I have young children, and young smart children, of course, *are* seeing this shit, and they are so confused.

And on the 33 years too late number, actually, the decline really started to take off around 1964 (or one could say 1945 or 1954), or 1976. So we are really right on track under that theory.

Even at a level less insane than Bruce Jenner: this unwavering devotion to the individual’s right to be totally free and never be judged, with the majority having no right to define standards of decency. That’s the left. Total freedom to do whatever a person wants WITHOUT REGARD TO THE EFFECT ON HIS NEIGHBOR. This is a violation of the common law of property (another thing the left does not understand). And ironically, as noted by CH, this total freedom for the INDIVIDUAL always eventually (and it must) lead to totalitarianism or a communist dictatorship, with NO freedom, no privacy, no right of free speech or association, and then you get the surveillance state we have now (looking to silence the realtalkers who go against “the party”, who are the ones who want decency and reality, and the real talkers are silenced and deleted from twitter, and then eventually you get people “disappeared” to the gulag or to Siberia. The disappeared people are the ones who actually believe in freedom.

History has given us plenty of examples so that the left should be able to see what is happening and what is coming. Many of them are intelligent. How can they not see it?

Color me sad, furious, and scared.

Toward the end of the Second World War, conquering Soviet troops occupied a convent in Moldova. The nuns sought refuge elsewhere. On their return, they found a note on the altar: “The commander of the soldiers who occupied this convent states that he left it untouched and asks you to pray for his soul.” Since then, his name is mentioned at every service: Alexander.

Pray for Brother Alexander. Reader, you pray too, because it is not only the name of the commander of these victorious troops – … – but also the name of all the Brothers Alexander, all unsteady conquerors.

Pray for Brother Alexander in China, and do not forget Brother Alexander in the United States. Pray for the powerful everywhere, for those who know, physicists, mathematicians, and superhuman engineers, and for those who no longer know what they know, who know not what they do. Pray for those who have and distribute wealth, and their accountants. Pray for those who wander triumphantly through life without books, and those who wander in books, for the European who has triumphed over material needs and modern man who has triumphed over nature and God. Pray for Brother Alexander.

The cloud is where the governments have their power and control. The cloud consists of your communications, your banking, transactions, television, your familia interactions, and your internet. They control the message and thus they control the people. They know what you eat, drink, and where you fill your gas tank. They know your travel because of your cell phone and your transactions at hotels. They know what your searches are on the internet. They can track you via your IP address unless you are a skipper or a bouncer. The cloud allows news to be aired instantly thus it allows the messages to affect the culture instantly instead of sinking in. It numbs the Spirit, in a robotic frame of mind. Seventy percent of people can be brainwashed. That is a fact. The cloud has brainwashed the people and we the people embraced it, worshipped it, and accepted it.

Empires have a life cycle of 250 years, and Glubb finds a dozen examples of this from history.

In only one case was a dying “empire” reborn in the same place: when the Roman Republic was replaced with the Roman Empire, which gave Rome a second 250 years of greatness. In all other cases, the dead empire never managed to revive itself.

For this reason it is folly to hope that the present decadence will be destroyed so that we can rebuild: any rebuilding will happen somewhere else.

Part of the problem is when too much power goes to the top elites.

Used to be; a man could be the only wage earner in his house, pay for his college, support his wife and three kids, get a house and car etc…..all while working 32 hours or part time under today’s perspective.

Nowadays you and your wife can work 70 hours each and still not have enough to pay the bills, forget sending your kids to college.

So a lot of the lower economic types start turning to welfare etc…..which continues until they start doing better and start turning away from it.

Once those social programs drop, the elite start setting up laws and manipulating the government so everything goes their way and the circle starts anew.

You can see it with minorities or even women when they are at higher social levels than other women.

When it profits them; they are totally pro-social programs. When they are well off; they don’t care at all and everybody else can eat a “dick” more or less.

And that’s even if they got there primarily “because” of social programs.
