I read Paglia’s piece earlier today, great stuff as always. She’s a lesbian of course, of the kind more oriented towards logic, and it shows in her writings. You understandably fear a collapse of the current structure. Most rational humans would because chaos and anarchy aren’t much fun. You however have fear above and beyond that because unless the ship rights itself as you said by “rolling it back a tad” the pendulum will once again swing far in the other direction.
This is bad news for you on a personal level, so again, I understand your fear of such an event. I’d feel the same in your shoes.
The problem is, I don’t really see this “roll back” occuring at this point. You may think we first for apocalypse, I for one, do not. I think most of the people you are calling cartoonish simply see with the same set of eyes that I do. Nothing -short- of collapse can right the ship at this point.
But I wouldn’t be up nights. I strongly doubt you will see this place fully implode in our lifetimes. This carcass is very large and has plenty of chunks of raw meat left to be torn off for decades to come.
