I have worked engineering jobs for decades, mostly in So. Cal.
I have at least superficially known about 100 engineers. Outside of heavily classified environments, about half were immigrants. From Europe and East Asia. Only very few from India and very few Hispanics.
Funny thing is, of those that expressed political opinions (many did not) a very solid majority were at least right of center.
Northern California might be different, but I do not have enough sample size.
And engineers are high IQ people or they could not do the job.

I work in a technical field in a conservative industry in a conservative state. I’ve been counting the white to other ratios in various meetings. Out of 32 people in a recent meeting 3 were women, 2 white, 1 not (Pakistani maybe, or Indian). 17 of the remaining 29 in attendance were white men, the other 15 were non-white. At least 10 of the 15 were immigrants. I have a master’s degree and there were several others in the room in addition, as well as a handful of Phd’s. The immigrants are predominately from China and India with a occasional immigrant from Pakistan or the M.E.
So, in this and other meetings, the ratio of white to non-white is running about 60/40. 20 years ago it would have been 95/5 with zero women. I haven’t really counted but the majority of women engineers I see are immigrants, mostly Chinese and a few from India. The non-technical side of the industry is infected with liberal white soy bois. Most of the white men in the technical side lean conservative including the non-white guys who aren’t immigrants. In the larger industry environment politics are rarely discussed but I’m pretty open about my politics and interests, particularly as it regards guns, and I get a pretty good sense of who is who politically from that.
My own company is very conservative, mostly male. What women there are mostly work in HR and accounting. The vast majority of employees are gun owners and voted for Trump. The county the company is in voted over 70% for Trump and I’d guess the percentage of Trump voters in the company is higher. Of those employees I know anything about personally, 25% or more are licensed for concealed carry, me included. I have no idea how many, but there are licensed women carriers too and the company sponsored the class required to get licensed on company property.
