The woman in question is, frankly, as ugly as sin. Since we are talking about Finland, I dare say she was the least attractive of the contestants, by a mile.
So what on Earth is going on here? This feature of modern life where blacks are given prizes they clearly don’t deserve (the college debates are classic examples, then there is President Obama’s unearned Nobel Prize) and everyone involved – the judges, the media, the blacks themselves – are made to look ridiculous, is truly fascinating and I wish we could get to the bottom of it all and try to understand the psychological and sociological forces at play. I cannot believe that there is anyone out there who sincerely thinks that she is attractive. So what is going through the minds of the people that awarded her the prize? Are we supposed to PRETEND to believe that she is beautiful? Can we somehow choose to believe she is beautiful? Or are we allowed to think that she is perhaps not deserving of the prize on the basis of beauty but that by promoting her looks we are somehow doing our bit in the effort to overcome stereotypes and raise up the black race?
But everyone, male or female, KNOWS that she is nowhere near deserving of the prize. Everyone KNOWS that she only received the award because she is black. Everyone KNOWS that whoever tries to pretend otherwise is immediately revealed to be dishonest. Nothing makes sense.
