The NFL has reached that point with society that’s similar to when a chick has first truly questioned whether she’s gonna bother with you anymore. We all know that point. The energy shifts. You’re playing catch up. She isn’t ignoring you, but she’s clearly starting to move on to other toys.
This season is going to be definitive and its not looking good for the NFL. They will always be around, just like hockey and baseball, but they are going to give up the crown to someone else and the gravy train is going to end.
Some negro felons are about to get some serious pay cuts.
The NFL largely rode the wave of technology. They benefited most from the surge in mind-bending video technology that now lets use see beads of sweat from 120 yards away at 60 frames per second. The fast-paced, but honestly tiring and usually uninteresting, pace of the game was matched by the schizophrenic use of graphics to fill in the attention gaps. I grew up just paying attention to it as TV technology went Space Age and honestly my first NFL game live was an utter shock.
Its a hugely boring game to watch. Without a dizzying array of close-ups and replays its mostly just reflexive bursts of chaos punctuated by wandering around waiting for the chaos to be interpreted. Its actually not that interesting of a game.
Baseball has a much smoother, more intelligent flow which is blatantly illustrated by the fact that the same video technology that has made football watchable has only enhanced the picture of a baseball game. There’s no time for million dollar graphics processing, there’s a goddamn game going on.
Hockey is similar, the game is fluid and fast and only benefits from better cameras and picture but most of the game is still the game, only you can see the goddamned puck now.
The NFL is fucked because the money invested in producing watchable games now, which the public will NEVER, EVER give them an inch of leeway on, is astronomically expensive. You honestly have no fucking idea how much money it takes to produce the television broadcast of an NFL game, the numbers I’ve seen looked like an absolute joke. That and their recent, and current stadium projects were based on ten year old financials and, being in the construction, I can tell you the last five (including current Rangers) stadium projects pushed the limits of every form of engineering and will still being paid off 50 years from now. The Falcons Stadium was positively obscene, although the pictures of building it are honestly breathtaking.
The NFL is fucked.
