What explains Jefferson's seeming contradictory stance toward jewry? And, keep in mind, that Jefferson was not alone among the Founders in holding to both anti-semitic and pro-semitic views. To resolve this enigma, we have to understand that all the Founders were products of the Enlightenment. Liberalism has deep roots in this country that go back to the age of science and reason and individual liberty. The Founders would have barfed at today's trannies, but the sapling that grew from the seed of their political and social ideology would eventually shade all under a canopy of degeneracy.
The answer then, is in the accepted secular theological tenets of Jefferson's day conflicting with the pattern recognition of the observant mind. Just as it is today.
Jefferson noticed bad jewish behavior, which he could only reconcile with his enlightenment beliefs by studiously avoiding the conclusion that jewish behavior is a racial attribute and therefore intrinsic to jewish character. Race-based attributes cannot be managed or resolved by appeals to individualism or non-discriminatory rationalism. Jefferson's moral lodestar -- the Enlightenment -- could not tolerate the idea of exclusion of jewry, so he fell back on the copium of his day, namely that "freedom of religion" would strengthen the unity of the young nation.
In time, Jefferson would perhaps surmise, the enlightened rationalism of individual liberty would assimilate all races and creeds into a shared morality, as each competing group would be invested in the success of the united nation.
Less high-minded, perhaps Jefferson was simply complacent in his own people's numerical advantage in the new land, and therefore could afford to indulge small if annoying upstart religious minorities.
We make concessions all the time to square our ideological ego with our experienced reality.

I almost wish I sat for Judd’s seven minutes of hate. That was both shiv-tastic and also foretelling of what their rationalizations are going to be. Never mind that they likely get off on knowing that our kids are watching, they will say something to the effect that they “need” to hear it. That they “need” to know the opposite view (oh, if only they knew. They are making fools of themselves so yes, I kind of agree) and that it will even soothe them of their fear of the big bad Trump. They will contrast, compare and realize that Trump is the adult in the room. We joked about the notion of “Big Daddy Trump” but, it turned out to be more poignant because of Judd’s and Madonna’s antics.

Mildly OT: in keeping with the theme that Hillary lost the election after spending all her adult life in the poltical realm to a guy who took it up as a hobby last year, I can just imagine the dramatic improvement in healthcare coverage that will replace Obummercare.
Granted, Obummercare is so bad, anything would be better, but given that his entire legacy, or part of it, was based on that shitty legislation, I can’t wait until that gets trumped for something light years better. With more happy people, better coverage, no mandate.
