A recent survey of 100 social science studies discovered that 60 of them failed to replicate. (I’d like to reproducibility with that girl on the left.) In scientific terminology, that’s called a “poor showing”.
The new analysis, called the Reproducibility Project, found no evidence of fraud or that any original study was definitively false. Rather, it concluded that the evidence for most published findings was not nearly as strong as originally claimed.
The reasons given for the… oh what shall we call it… INCOMPETENCE of social scientists are:
- Pressure to publish novel research and “make a splash”.
- The misuse of replication studies by (often younger) scientists who want to attack the original author.
- Small sample sizes.
- Small methodology differences between the original and reproduced studies. (This would sometimes redound in favor of the original study’s findings.)
I’d like to offer another two possibilities for the wretched state of social science, that I believe more parsimoniously explain the weak and sometimes utterly useless “discoveries” that the field generates on a near-daily basis:
Diversity™ and Equalist Bias.
Diversity is the King of All Moral Crusades in 2015 America, which in practice means that too many non-Whites and women of dubious talent are replacing White men with obvious talent. Corruption, incompetence, and ethnic nepotism are fast becoming the rule rather than the exception in the West as the fields most susceptible to the Diversity™ siren call fill with diversity-quota hires and empty of skilled White men.
Equalist Bias corrupts a field that is dominated by Leftoid Equalists. Social Science has some good eggs (David Buss) but most social scientists are flaming liberal cranks and feminists who simply entered the field eager to co-opt a creeeeeedentialist imprimatur for their preexisting blank slate race and sex creationism religion. This is why CH has said that one’s working assumption should be that 99% of any social science research which comes out of a university with a large and well-funded women’s studies department is worthless drivel. The source matters. Shitlib emotional bias isn’t something the modern social scientist tries to overcome; it’s something she tries to back-rationalize with her work.
The cure for social science is clear: Less Diversity™, More Realtalkers. Hope this hurts.

Remember the Jewish leftist Diederik Stapel, a professor in social psychology in the Netherlands, whose false experiments sought to prove that conservatives are bad and leftism is the best or the normal.
He claimed, for example, that simply thinking of eating meat made people behave more selfishly. Meat eaters were more selfish than vegetarians. (Another thing for evil Westerners to feel ashamed of – eating meat.)
He claimed that he had made a test where subjects ate more jelly beans from jars when the jars were marked with capitalist words. (Capitalism = greed.)
His most famous lie is still sometimes presented as true in scientific magazines – and no magazine will bring it up as a hoax. It was called “Coping with chaos: How disordered contexts promote stereotyping and discrimination.” He claimed White test subjects had filled out a survey at a train station, and when the station was full of trash they sat farther away from a Black man, while when it was clean they sat closer. When the station was full of trash they rated people (Dutch, homosexuals, immigrants) in a more stereotyped way in the survey, while when it was clean they saw people as being more similar.
That last study was meant to prove that “stereotypes” have no basis in reality, that stupid Whites don’t base their evil racism on facts. In fact, all these studies were false. When driving around with a colleague from the university, Stapel couldn’t even find the railway station where the survey had supposedly taken place.
How did he get away with it? According to Stapel himself, he could falsify results as long as they went in the direction colleagues at the university expected. In other words, the leftist who was supposed to reveal that conservative views are based on bias instead of facts, showed that leftists – even “scientific” professors – base their views on bias instead of facts.
About the (false) study about meat eaters:
“Thinking of meat, does not exactly bring out the best in people, Roos Vonk noted. People who looked at the steak had made selfish choices during a division game, they often chose in their own interest. In imaginary situations, they found themselves more important than others and reacted less social: in a fire they found that they often wished to be saved first, and that they were less willing to help someone who is upset. Social science is an oxymoron because its practitioners start from a premise (invariably false) and then retrofit their research findings to conform to that premise. The polar opposite of real science.
The problem is that many social scientists are dishonest shits, so much gets churned out that not many ideas get retested and other such causes. It’s good genetics is slaughtering the standard social science model though.
That’s my point basically.
I do some university teaching for engineers and scientists (real ones) as well as work with high powered scientific businesses in my practice.
