Yeah, it’s a shame. What I find rather interesting is that you have certain people — Buchanan being now, I think a prime example — who do seem to *get* what the people want… but goddammit, they don’t really feel it.
That is to say, he wants to give us some of what we want in order to have a political victory, or a historic spectacle, or a “great event,” but not because he really loves us. He ultimately doesn’t care about us *as* us — we are an interesting object.
I believe this is what we’re beginning to see with Tucker Carlson, too. He’s sensitive enough to see what’s ailing, but ultimately, he’s like the doctor who wants to cure the patient as a science project. And he hates some of the other dosctors, becuase he finds them to be morons.
Granted, they *are* morons, but as the ancients would put it, the point of medicine is the patient, not the art of medicine.
And none of these people ultimately care about the patient.
Trump’s problem was that he did care about the patient, but he made the fatal mistake of acting as if others around him did as well.
