@Atavator @Miradus Good comment, but generally I take the holistic view that race — or “type” — should be seen in both material and spiritual forms. And I don’t think these forms are mutually exclusive.

Do genes see “type”? Dawkinsists like Cochran would say, no, that group selection doesn’t exist (or mathematically can’t exist), and that only the selfish individual’s genes matter to evolution. But clearly humans have, more in some less in others, an instinct to racial awareness and even racial self-preservation. So our genes have imbued us with a kind of prototype of group selection, where we can grasp on an intuitive level that mating with our own kind is good for our individual genes.
