@Isaac_Bickerstaff @Heartiste It hasn’t always been pre-planned to this extent. It got that way starting 1996, when Bill Clinton signed a new Telecommunications Act into law. It allowed monopolies in newspaper, radio, and TV. Big companies could now buy up all assets in a single market or multiple markets. Community papers, TV, and radio stations were swallowed up by Tribune and Clear Channel (etc.). Things became a corporate-driven narrative since there were few dissenting voices on the right (community papers) or classic “old left” (city papers). Then newspapers removed online comments sections — and admission they didn’t want dissenting voices. Then Big Tech banned dissenting voices. It’s been a gradual process, but Clinton allowed it to happen in ’96.
