FYI, open facial expressions evoke the opposite perception in people. Wide eyes, raised eyebrows and open mouth communicate beta maleness. Combining a closed facial expression with an open body language is the recipe for influencing people’s perceptions of you as the arch-alpha.

Absolutely. That’s why my default stationary pose is feet at shoulder width and hands behind back with one hand loosely clasped in the other. Not only is this a very alpha pose which leaves one vulnerable to attack, it also has the side-benefit of keeping one’s hands out of the way and thus preventing hoverhands. When you strike this pose, though, you should be careful to not grasp one wrist or arm with the opposing hand as that’s actually a defensive posture and not at all alpha.

He’s from Texas, and based on what I’m hearing in my (voting) Republican circles, he’s still the guy most hardcore conservatives are supporting (even though many of them say they don’t dislike Trump, they still are tied to this idea that they need a professional politician, and Cruz is seen as the most conservative of the bunch). As creepy and uncharismatic as he is, people see him as a smart (true) guy who hates Obama and has been a thorn in the side of the current leaders in Washington. I’m not buying it completely, and he’s far inferior to Trump on the national question, but he’s parroting much of Trump’s pro-Wall rhetoric so he’s Trump’s biggest challenge in SC.
It’s good that guac-bowl Jeb! and RoboRubio are still around, along with Gaysich, to dilute the “establishment” vote in SC (said establishment that hates Trump, and at least dis favors Cruz).
If Der Trump can defeat Cruz in SC, it will be a sign that Trump is well-positioned to repeat that in the non-Texas Southern states that vote in the next big day March 1 (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tenessee, Virgiina, and Oklahoma), while Trump should also win in Vermont, Massachusetts, Minnessota, Colorado, and Alaska (all also on March 1); Cruz may win TX given it’s his “home state” but it should be close.
Unless RoboRubio can do something really big in the pre-SC debate, it looks like guacamole Jeb! will use his millions to be the non-Cruz lingering threat to Trump at least through March 15 (when Florida votes).
But the bottom-line is that if he can win in SC, Trump’s overall national popularity is going to be a YUGE asset to him when the remainder of the states start to vote in a flurry of contests at more or less the same time. No candidate will be able to setup resident in any one state or leverage particular in-state connections (a la guan bowl Jeb! in SC) to change the narrative, and the national opinion polls start to play out in the large clusters of states that all start voting on the same day.

I disagree; I mean, I get what you’re saying. People like Reagan and John Wayne are able to be “folksy alpha” and garner a lot of influence by being so damned likable. That’s well and good but it has it has its limits if you don’t know how to force you will upon others. Trump’s “bully pulpit” alphaness is a product of the fight he has to engage in to get to where Reagan got (as others have already said) and it’s also based on Trump just being so much more damned knowledgeable than Reagan and having a bigger vision and knowing exactly what he needs to do. Reagan never made billions of dollars busting heads and getting things done with his knowledge like Trump has. Trump has more knowledge in his head about how the world REALLY works (Reagan was sort of out to lunch at times) and I suspect is better able to delegate out tasks to other expects in a more effective way than Reagan ever could. That requires more than just being folksy and having quips. Remember the company Reagan kept. He was largely on cruise control being folksy while the neo-cohens further entrenched themselves within the establishment. Being bathed in his charms for eight years had its price even if that price wasn’t readily apparent.
