That’s a good point. A lot of guys today can cook as well as girls do… or better. Or they’re super clean with organized closets or never need anything when they’re sick. Then you wonder what value you can bring to the relationship. It’s unsettling.

Being at home with the kids makes a huge difference compared to throwing them in a kiddy kennel. Reason why should be obvious. If close and loving, heavily invested family (or similar) are available it’s about the same. Done it both ways…stay at home and work thing with kids and noticed a major difference in everyone’s wellbeing.

This is actually been studied. Children whose moms make them breakfast in the morning do better in school. Researchers originally thought it was because of caloric content, but that’s not really what was going on. Yes, it’s highly important for kids to have good nutrition, which is better facilitated by home cooking than pre-made or take-out meals. But there’s more to life than nutrition.
In that study, after adjusting for various factors, it turned out that kids who ate breakfast did better at school because kids who ate breakfast had parents who gave a shit about providing all those other little intangibles that children need to thrive.
