The sinosphere has something similar with its constant production of historical dramas (esp chinese and korean). TV adaptations of Louis Cha novels are churned out every so often. Heck, Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber has been remade at least ten times in the past 30 years. Don’t they have any new ideas to put out instead of constantly rehashing the same stuff again and again.

I have to admit I never understood that. I have been in conscripted and served way too long. But I never had that feeling of “willing to die for…” I always opted to “disappear” before the shit would hit the fan. Until, until I met a group of people who were like me. Held the same values, the same goals. Then I suddenly understood the willingness to die for “my people”, because in a very real sense, my death would not be the end of “me”. “I” would continue to live in the lives of those who are in a very real sense “copies” of me. It would be way worse to loose such a fight and return home, only to discover that “I/we” were dead and just waiting for biology to catch up with reality.
Now, don’t get me started on the treason that was committed upon the people in those graves…. I cannot image a worse kind of treason…

Why is everyone so negative on this video? So much hate. I see it different:
* A healthy, social get-together (which beats them sitting in a basement on their computers, or sitting home surrounded by cats);
* A very good mix of men and women;
* 99% White;
* The show has a 90%+ White cast (with the most beloved characters being Whites) – so nobody is staring at a screen (while wearing a jersey with another man’s name on the back) with basketball American running up and down a stupid court, pretending that a stupid child’s game provides some meaning to their lives;

I agree with your take,Johnny. Sure, this is cringe from an outsiders view. The recent popularity of these “see muh reaction!! ^_^!!!” videos are cringy and a sign of decline as CH noted(Star wars trailer betacuck crying comes to mind). However, the act itself, majority white people gathering around, mingling, albeit about a TV show, still beats being a drone on your phone, or not doing anything social.
As a fan since the inception of GoT on HBO, It’s a shame that TV shows & movies are used in a manner to replace actual culture. As has been already pointed out, this was the plan from the start.
As johnny stated, this would be a great opportunity to get to know girls. At least it’s not in a bar/club playing nog music.

Good comparison, Greg. The Walking Dead is an absolutely disgusting television show, chock full of POZ, with no redeeming qualities to it (at least any that outweigh the overwhelming POZ). The first two seasons were interesting, even though POZ’s with fake “the races working together” messages, but it quickly jumped the shark thereafter. I am guessing that any crowds (if there are any) meeting up at bars to watch The Walking Dead would look very different than the crowd contained in the above video for the GoT meet-up.

When I was living in the Czech Republic, I went to a little country pub with some friends. It was packed with people. A few acoustic guitarists on a little makeshift stage lead the whole group in singing Czech folk songs. So much fun.

One big difference between shows like Game of Thrones, Vikings, etc. (and in stories going back many centuries, to such great epics as Beowulf) and the Marvel Comic-variety, men-in-tights superhero shows (and their many previous comic books iterations) is that the latter shows a helpless populace who, in large part, relies on an outer force much greater than them, to rescue them from the menace; whereas, the former shows one that even the simplest person has the inner strength to make a big changes by individual acts of valor, courage, and honor – and live on in the memory of men for such deeds.
